August 31, 2013: President Barack Obama addressed the nation today in the White House’s Rose Garden, remarking that the United States ‘should take military action against Syrian targets.’ He also noted that he would seek Congressional authorization before proceeding with any limited military action. Though Congress is currently on recess, President Obama appealed to them stating, ‘Today I’m asking Congress to send a message to the world that we are united as one nation.’
