Guardian Spouse: Fostering Connections and Empowering Space Force Spouses

At the center of the ever-evolving landscape of today’s military community, three exceptional individuals- Sheila Rupp, Aimee Selix, and Cara-Lee Alford, are pioneering a transformative initiative aimed at knitting together the fabric of the Space Force’s support network.

Together, they’ve embarked on an encouraging venture called “Guardian Spouse: Candid Conversations,” a monthly Zoom series tailored especially for Space Force spouses.

The beginning of this innovative project stems from a shared vision to cultivate connection and encouragement within the Space Force community. With the Space Force being the newest branch in the military, Rupp, Selix, and Alford recognized the need to create accessible platforms for insightful discussions, encouragement, and educational resources. The monthly Zoom sessions curated by this dynamic trio serve as a beacon of support and guidance for spouses navigating the unique challenges and opportunities within the Space Force ecosystem.

Each session of “Guardian Spouse: Candid Conversations” is intentionally structured, featuring a seasoned spouse who shares their experiences, a valuable resource, and an authentic dialogue aimed at igniting honest conversations among Space Force spouses. The aim is to jumpstart honest discussions, fostering an environment where shared experiences and wisdom can flourish, offering invaluable guidance and support.

The significance of this initiative is underscored by the impact of the Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year (MSOY) award and their Town Hall gathering in Washington DC. This program served as a pivotal juncture, uniting these amazing Space Force spouses for the greater good of the military community. The AFI MSOY award not only honors the extraordinary contributions of military spouses but also serves as a catalyst for forging connections and collaborations among like-minded individuals passionate about empowering military families.

“Because of the MSOY program, I now have these two ladies, Sheila Rupp and Cara-Lee Alford. Their friendships and the bonds that we have made are priceless.”

Aimee Selix

As nominations for the 2024 MSOY award opened on December 4th, the potential impact of nominating deserving military spouses cannot be overstated.

“Nominating a military spouse is a great way to validate their efforts, and show them that what they are doing matters and makes a difference to others.”

Cara-Lee Alford

The Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year award offers the chance to recognize and celebrate the unsung heroes who tirelessly support our service members and contribute immeasurably to the strength of our nation. Importantly, both military community members and civilians have the opportunity to nominate individuals whose dedication and selflessness deserve acknowledgment.

“The AFI MSOY program helps the military community feel a little smaller and helps give a perspective you don’t always have the opportunity to receive. Collaborating and meeting spouses from other regions, countries, and branches is something very powerful.”

Sheila Rupp

The convergence of the MSOY award and the collaborative efforts of Rupp, Selix, and Alford through “Guardian Spouse: Candid Conversations” exemplifies a powerful synergy. It highlights the proactive strides being taken to bolster the Space Force community and underscores the importance of unity and support within the military community.
