7 Ways to Get Moving on LinkedIn

Which situation do you think will serve you better?  Remember that building your profile and establishing connections takes time.  Don’t wait until you are actively job seeking to start because it is too late.

Follow these seven steps to really get moving on LinkedIn today:

  1. Optimize your profile. Employers search for people with certain skill sets and experience on LinkedIn. Keep an eye on who has viewed your profile to gauge how effective your profile is attracting the people you want.

  2. Use keywords. If you have applied to a job, make sure employers can find you. Show up in searches by maximizing your use of keywords that apply to your targeted position.

  3. Sell your skills. Find out how your skills match up with other industry professionals and what businesses want those skills. Search for groups, companies, and professionals based on skills & expertise. This is a great resource to beef up your profile with keywords.

  4. Connect more. Take advantage of your existing network to find out who your friends know in your new duty location by searching your connection’s connections.

  5. Get recommended. Employers want to know that others agree with what you put in your profile. Get recommendations from past coworkers to validate your statements.

  6. Get involved. Use groups to find connections and gain exposure in your new location. Don’t forget about alumni associations and industry groups. Another benefit of groups is that you can send a direct message to fellow group members so if you find a great contact for an interesting company, you can contact them directly to find out more.

  7. Control your settings. Don’t want all of your information released to the public? Change your account settings to control who can see your profile, connections, and updates along with email notifications.

Don’t let another day, another week, another month pass by without chipping away at LinkedIn. For more information on this topic, read the original article 7 Ways to Get Moving on LinkedIn on Michelle’s blog.
