“What do I want to be when I grow up?”

It’s a strange question to ask as an adult. Pursuing a new career can be daunting, but preparing to compete in the job arena by completing higher education can be slightly more overwhelming. In addition to the challenges of being an active duty family, there can be prohibitive issues in regards to the cost of an education or finding a worthwhile program of study.

“What degree should I pursue? Will I be able to get a job afterward? What happens if I have no marketable skills with degree I’ve chosen?”

So many times, military spouses go unemployed due to these challenges and uncertainties. Pursuing a degree in a field that could ensure a promising career could alleviate some of the stress of degree selection.

According to Laura Early, Co-Founder of the WISE Advise + Assist Team, there are so many opportunities for military spouses in the virtual space.

WISE is a virtual team of military spouses, veteran spouses, and veterans. They recruit highly qualified project managers and virtual assistants to comprise an army of business solutions and problem solvers for today’s corporate needs and small business ventures.

Laura, as a military spouse employment industry expert, shared some insight into careers and degree recipients that are constantly in demand.

Here are the top 5 “Hot-Ticket” online degrees for military spouses that are in demand to fill in the virtual job market.

1.Digital Marketing and Advertising

This degree equips creative thinkers and problem solvers looking to aid businesses in online marketing and sales to succeed. Digital marketers assist with everything from e-mail marketing to sales funnels.

2. Tech/ Web Design

The Tech/Web space is exploding. Applicants in this area of expertise design and create landing pages, product sites, and construct a compelling experience for online web users.

3. Graphic Design

Graphic designers use a variety of media to curate art that will meet the needs of various clients. Graphic design is used in multiple markets, from traditional publishing, e-books, sales content, and beyond.

4. Accounting/CPA

Accountants and financial professionals analyze and prepare financial records. Accountants are needed for non-profits, private corporations, or government agencies.

5.  Support/Administrative

Customer/Sales support is no longer limited to large call centers. Almost every industry requires a degree of customer support. Entry level professionals in this career field can move quickly up the ladder to upper management.

With the nature of this active duty military lifestyle, it is important to find economical education options, portable careers, and the flexibility to chase one’s professional passion.

Obtaining a specialized degree in any of these areas can provide military spouses with options and opportunities for success, while also ensuring the possibility of securing a job afterwards.
