As a military spouse, your educational aspirations are an important part of who you are. If you’re an active duty military spouse and are considering going back to school or starting a new degree, license or certification, there are a lot of viable options out there for you. Many institutions offer discounted tuition to active duty spouses, or have scholarships that military spouses can apply for.

ACP, the Veteran and Active Duty Military Spouse Mentoring Program, is proud to partner with several of the schools and academic institutions listed below (starred) that offer specific programming to accommodate a military spouse’s needs and interests.

  • SNHU offers up to 30% discounted tuition for active duty military spouses.
  • Harvard Business School* offers two scholarships that you may be eligible for. The Wells Fargo Scholarship provides up to $10,000 per year to fill gaps for veterans and spouses of disabled veterans after military benefits and other grants and scholarships. The Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program (DEAP/REAP) offers opportunities to the dependents of veterans who were permanently disabled during their time in service, or who passed during their time in service.
  • Bryan University* offers active duty spouses a $300 discount to tuition per academic year and waives their course registration fee.
  • University of Chicago* offers the Tillman Scholarship to active duty veterans and active duty military spouses. To be considered for the scholarship, active duty spouses must provide examples of how they’ve made a positive impact on their community.
  • Franklin University offers a 20% tuition discount to all active duty military spouses. This discount counts towards associate, bachelor’s, and undergraduate certificate programs. It also can be used towards master’s degree and graduate certificate programs.
  • Three Rivers Community College* was named a 2021-2022 Military Spouse Friendly School because of its dedication to the military spouse and veteran communities. For the full list of Military Spouse Friendly Schools, please click here.
  • ECPI University offers the Active Duty Military Scholarship Program.

While these schools each offer valuable programs, you might be setting your sights on another school, and that’s okay! There are plenty of ways that you can pay for a license, certification or degree that will set you up for the job you want.

  • MyCAA – Covers up to $4000 in tuition fees for eligible military spouses pursuing a license, certification or Associate’s degree. Please note that this program does not cover tuition for a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • Active Duty Military Spouses are also eligible to access an entire library of training courses from SkillSoft. Courses offered center around Technology, Leadership & Development, Project Management and more. Active Duty Military Spouses can apply here through the USO.
  • You might be eligible to have your spouse’s G.I. Bill transferred to you to help pay for your education.

If you’re ready to further your education but don’t know where to start, make an account on MySECO. Sponsored by Military OneSource, MySECO is your spot for navigating employment and educational opportunities.

You also might benefit from ACP’s free, year-long, one-to-one, customized mentorship to help you plan out your educational goals. And, this is a great way to start networking for when the time comes for you to start applying for jobs.
