Abby Ammons: Serving with Compassion and Connection

In a world filled with ambitious goals and driven leaders, there are a few extraordinary individuals who stand out for their unwavering commitment to serving their communities through compassion and connection.

Abby Ammons is a seasoned military spouse, gifted communicator, and visionary for the military spouse community. Her mission and motive are simple yet profound: to empower and encourage military spouses toward their personal and professional goals.

As for her own profession, Abby serves as the Community Outreach Manager for the Second Service Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting military connected entrepreneurs through coaching, resources, and capital. In her role at the Second Service Foundation, Abby has a unique vantage point in the military spouse community. She interacts with community leaders, advocates, program partners, award recipients, and corporate sponsors with the common goal of creating long-term, impactful change. One of her most recent contributions is working on the Finding Your Second Service executive coaching program. This initiative provides military members, veterans, and military spouses with an opportunity to discover their unique skill sets and strengths while nurturing their potential as successful entrepreneurs. The application for this program remains open through November, offering a valuable gateway to personal and professional growth. So, if you (or someone you know) are considering entrepreneurship, you might want to check out this amazing opportunity.

With a heart that beats in sync with the military community, Abby uses her remarkable communication skills to tell the military story, bridging the gap between the servicemen and women and the rest of the world. But her dedication goes far beyond storytelling; it’s about helping others discover how they can make a meaningful impact in positive ways. She believes in connecting community members, fostering collaboration, and igniting change. Her unwavering devotion to the military community is a testament to her belief that kindness truly can change the landscape of today’s military community.

Furthermore, Abby volunteers as the Communications Director for the Stronghold Food Pantry, a military spouse founded initiative designed to stand in the gap for military families experiencing food insecurity and hunger. In a recent interview, Abby shared some invaluable advice to encourage military spouses who would want to start something new or build a viable business. She said

“First and foremost, I encourage you to explore whether there is an unmet need within your community or a group that craves the services or support you can offer. As a leader, if you’re the one equipped to meet this need, then you’re already on the right path.”

Secondly,  she suggests reaching out to the people within your intimate circle of influence. These individuals can provide critical insight and affirm whether your passion project is viable and within your reach. Their encouragement and support can be the wind beneath your wings as you embark on your journey of service and empowerment.

Lastly, she advocated for our community to remember that knowledge is power. Learn about the available resources for startup entrepreneurs. Seek out coaching, both for personal growth and business development. Identify potential sources of capital and other valuable resources that can nurture a vision and transform it into reality. In a world where compassion and connection are paramount, Abby Ammons stands as an inspiring example of what’s possible when you combine passion with purpose. Her mission to empower upwardly mobile military spouses is a testament to the incredible impact one person can make within a community. So, let her story be a source of inspiration, and may her advice be your guide as you contemplate your own path to serving with compassion and connection. Remember, the first step in making a difference is believing that you can. Start today; your community is waiting for you, your unique gifts, and for you to make the impact only you can
