4 Funk-Busters for You to Beat the Deployment Blues

3. Grab your Friends (or make some!)

Maybe you’re not up for adventuring on your own. I mean, being alone at home alone all the time can get rather lonely. So maybe you need to grab your friends, Groupon a trip (they actually have AMAZING deals on travel) and do something you’ll never forget. Romantic getaways with the spouse are great, but think back to college. Aren’t some of your best memories from those nights with friends where you just took off and went wherever the wind was blowing? Heck, even just the 2am adventures to Walmart turned into those times you laughed so hard you were crying. Get together with some other spouses and plan events every other month. You can all take turns planning the adventures and having those to look forward to will have you counting down days to the next wild trip (or spa day) instead of just counting months until your family is reunited.

4. There is always the option to go home

Of course, if you really need to feel a little less lost, aren’t up for the independent adventures, and you still haven’t bonded enough with the families in your area, there is always the option to go home, wherever that might be. For some families, taking the kids back to grandma and grandpa is just what the doctor called for. Being in a familiar environment with family members that love you and are there for backup when you need to go to the bathroom without the tiny human fingers wiggling under the door can be a life saver. If that will help you then go for it. Then again, maybe part of why you love being a part of the military family is because it helped you put some distance between you and the parents. You will know what is right for you and your family when it comes to moving back home or enjoying the adventure of a new location, even without your spouse.

No matter how you decide to keep the deployment countdown going, please just remember to keep moving forward. It is easy to get sucked into the funk of deployment blues and that will only make a long deployment feel never ending. So find you funk-buster. Find your adventure and make the most of the time. Days will pass either way. Why not enjoy them to the fullest?
