To That ONE Spouse, You Cannot Bully Me Anymore

Mindy Brewster by Mindy Brewster

There is always that one spouse at every base who does their best to bring you down.

I have seen it happen to me and to many other people. That one spouse who thinks they are better than everyone else, who thinks that if you are not exactly like them, then they will destroy you.

That one spouse who looks for ways to make you feel belittled, worthless and down-right depressed. Every single base I have lived on, I have met that spouse. That spouse has mistreated me and I have ignored that spouse.

I want people to be able to recognize that one spouse and put them in their place. NOT by doing the same things they do, but by being a voice and standing up to them.

We teach our children that bullying is not to be tolerated. We have entire movements happening due to cyberbullying, in school and more.

So, why can’t WE stand up to the base bully, that one spouse who does their duty to ruin other people’s self-esteem?

The military is a family. I have come to love this family so much, I have become a voice within my community and worked hard to protect my family.

We should all join together instead of and trying to slam people down.

With so many people in one place and so many different opinions, it is easy for us to get angry and hate. But that is what makes the military so unique — we can all share our love, lives and stories with each other.

We take the easy road and look for ways to blame, blast and hate each other, when in reality, we need to be working hard to keep our bonds strong.

Just as our military members are brothers and sisters, we should be as well. These people we coexist with are our lifelines, our village, the ones we call upon in an emergency, because your real family is a thousand miles away. These neighbors are the ones we look to for advice.

It is time to stop the hate and feel the love.

There is pride in our heart for our service members. And if you just happen to be the Bully, let me tell you a secret: You are only making yourself look bad.

Don’t worry brothers and sisters, if you ever need anything, just shoot me an email and I will always be there to show the love!
