10 Gift Ideas for Your Deployed Servicemember

Not sure what to give your deployed loved one for the holidays this year? Here are ten different ideas to send a Christmas care package they’ll be sure to love.

1: Mini Tree

Sand may be everywhere, but the visual of pine can be present in the version of a mini tree. Send a string of lights and small ornaments to help add holiday cheer.

2: Seasonings

Military food leans towards sustenance rather than flavor. Sending flavorful seasoning to add to meals is a gift that keeps on giving. One service member suggested Tapatio hot sauce packets, and another said Taijin was always a good call.

3: Books

Deployment can be a mix of busy days and evenings with nothing to do. Books are an excellent gift and can pass hands at their base. Check out your local thrift shop to get various books for a great deal.

4: Snacks

Snacks are a great addition to any gift box! Chips, crackers, nuts, or anything that will not melt are a wise choice. Add their favorites, and add odd flavors for extra fun.

5: Mini movie projectors

Movie projectors now come in smaller forms that are easily transportable and affordable. A projector is a unique gift for any gamer or movie fan to enjoy the things they love, wherever they go.

6: Homemade cookies

Just like snacks, homemade cookies are a delicious gift. Make the packaging as airtight as possible so they last longer. Although the cookies may arrive a little stale, it can be a taste of home if you have a generational family recipe.

7: Hygiene products

Although not as exciting as other items, hygiene products are always welcome. Many spouses said sending scented soaps, a favorite brand of toothpaste, baby wipes, or ‘DUDE Wipes‘ was a massive hit for their military members not to feel like they were constantly using ‘deployment travel products.’

8: Recordable stuffed animal

We have access to phones to communicate and bridge the 12 hour time difference, but a recording your loved one can play of your children wishing them well or you telling them what you love about them can be a keepsake they will always treasure. Add a special touch by spraying on a scent you often use.

9: Advent calendar

Instead of a giant Christmas gift, give an advent calendar. You can buy or make your own. Advent calendars come in many different themes, spanning trinkets, jams, LEGOs, and even socks!

10: Cards and games

Pick up some fun card games like UNO, Phase 10, and some regular card decks or dice for your military member and their friends to use.

Whatever you decide to send, know that telling your deployed member you love them and think of them often is the best gift of all.
