5 Ways Women Can Stop Waging War on Each Other

Erin Whitehead by Erin Whitehead

I recently read an article that really got my blood boiling. Not one to give free publicity to someone who infuriated me, I won’t link to the piece here. To summarize briefly, the writer was saying that women who were stay-at-home moms were hurting feminism and that to call what they do a “job” is disingenuous since most of them just go to lunch and get pedicures every day.

My first thought was, “Well, crap. Apparently I missed the memo and have been doing it wrong all these years by doing laundry, changing diapers and cleaning toilets. Guess I should schedule a pedicure.”

My second, third and fourth thoughts are not fit to print on this website.

It’s not because I am overly sensitive and feel the need to defend the fact that for many years I was a stay at home Mom and did very little to contribute to our household financially. It was the right decision for our family at the time, and despite the penny pinching and sacrifices we made, I would make it again in a heartbeat. I could care less what strangers think of my decisions.

What made me mad was that, once again, here was an example of women bashing other women and I have frankly had just about enough of it.

My conclusion after reading the whole article was this: The “War on Women” isn’t being waged by politicians or men at all. It is being waged by women who, for whatever reason, feel the need to belittle each other for their career and parenting choices.

I know I am not the only one who is sick and tired of this. But what do we do to change it? We are women. We are amazing creatures. Certainly we can figure out how to turn this around.

I think this calls for a Top 5 list, don’t you?
