In Playa del Carmen, Mexico at Panama Jack Resorts, on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, Christy Hinnant, an eight-year U.S. Army veteran with a tour in Iraq, was crowned Mrs. Universal 2019. She previously held the title of Mrs. North Carolina Universal 2019. Hinnant, and her husband Jesse, a Senior Human Resources Sergeant for the United States Army, reside near Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Hinnant is a full-time graduate student pursuing her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health with an expected graduation in May 2021. For her volunteer contributions during the past year, Hinnant was awarded the Silver President’s Volunteer Service Award from President Donald Trump. Hinnant was also awarded “Best in Gown” and “Best in Fitness” at the pageant.
Hinnant will be sharing her platform, “V.O.I.C.E.S Against Sexual Assault” throughout her reign, partnering with non-profits and organizations that share her vision of helping sexual assault victims go through the healing process as they become survivors. Hinnant says of her platform, “When you hear comments that make light of sexual assault, harassment, or abuse, speak up so others know you don’t agree. Don’t just sit there in silence because those around will think you agree and that is never OK. Speak up…say something! There is power in your story.”
The Universal Pageant has been established as an organization with integrity, values, and resilience. In 2016, 2017, and 2018 the Universal Pageant was voted in the Top 5 pageants for married women in the world. Delegates competed in four categories: interview, swimsuit/resort wear, evening gown, and final question. In addition to the event, highlights of the week included a titleholder dinner, tours across the Yucatan Peninsula, group shopping excursions, and several photoshoots. Other titleholders crowned for 2019 were: Ms. Universal 2019, Navneeta Hinz of Fiji, Mrs. Universal Elegance 2019, Paula Hoffman of Kansas, Ms. Universal Elegance 2019, Kalpana Brambhatt of India, Mrs. USA Universal 2019, Kristin Pavle of Texas, and Ms. USA Universal 2019, Sang Thi Duong of Florida.
