4 Fitness Trends YOU Can Follow At Home

When you’re taking care of multiple kids, your husband is on deployment or you’re working 40 plus hours a week it can feel like there just aren’t enough hours in the day. However, no matter how stretched thin you may feel, it’s still important to find time for yourself and for your health. Online workouts are a great tool during these busy times in your life. It can make finding time for yourself and exercise as easy as pressing play. Here are a few of my favorite exercise programs you can do from home: Barre3 Website: www.barre3.com What is it: An online workout program that’s a mix between pilates, ballet and yoga. Pros: If you’re pressed for time it’s very easy to find a Barre3 workout to fit your schedule. The videos range from 10 minutes to an hour in length. All of the videos have modifications for those that are expecting or have any knee or joint problems. The program is also very cost effective at only $15 per month and they offer a one week free trial so you can check it out before you commit. Based on my own personal experience, these workouts are great for your booty and if done regularly you’ll definitely see results there, always a plus! Cons: Although the videos are great for toning, depending on your fitness level you may not work up more than a light sweat so the videos on their own may not be enough to meet your weekly cardio goals as well. Nike Training Club What is it: A free app for your phone with a mix of strength training and cardio workouts organized by your goal. Pros: Did I mention free? I’ve had this app for two years and have never paid a penny for it, something that is very rare for a quality app. The app is a great resource for quality workouts when you’re feeling unmotivated or uninspired and most of them can be done with no props or just free weights. The workouts range from 15 minutes to 60 minutes in length and if you don’t know an exercise move, there’s a short video demonstrating each move in the workout. Cons: The workouts include a lot of plyometrics and there aren’t very many modifications available for the moves. Physique 57 Website: physique57.com What is it: A barre based workout that combines cardio, ballet, strength training and stretching. Pros: This is a great toning workout and requires minimal equipment other than weights, a ball and a steady surface such as a chair you can use as your “Barre”. The workout has modifications for every move and a great section of abs and lower body work. Cons: The workouts are a bit pricy at $5-7 per video for a 2 day rental or $57 per month. Also, depending on your fitness level, Physique 57 may not provide enough cardio by itself to be your sole workout. Beachbody On Demand Website: www.beachbody.com What is it: For a monthly fee you can now access many of the popular Beachbody programs online, such as Turbofire, Insanity, Chalean Extreme, and P90X among others. Pros: They offer a thirty day free trial so you don’t have to commit right away. The workouts also offer a lot of variety and choices for both strength training and cardio. Cons: A lot of the workouts are very high impact and difficult to modify, although some of them do offer modifications, such as Turbofire and T25. The program can also be expensive at $153.48 a year, billed at quarterly payments of $38.87. Many of the workouts also require props that you may not already have at home, such as resistance bands or a full set of weights. Do you have any favorite online or at home exercise programs?
