5 Ways to Ignite Passion With Your Spouse

Speaking of V-Day, have you thought about what you’ll do to romance them this year? Contrary to popular belief, they probably want to be on the receiving end of romance, as well, and the same rules apply. Be true to your brand of romance and think outside of the box!

Valentine’s Day is more than just an excuse to eat mass quantities of chocolate. It’s a cultural ritual, and we know a thing or two about those. But just in case you need a little help to get the ball rolling, here are a few things to think about. You could even share this with your service member if you feel the need to drop some hints.

  1. Ditch the five-star restaurant. Grab the candles, turn off the lights and open up some MREs! If you’re still hungry after that, I’ve got two words for you: take out!
  2. Find, call and pay the babysitter. Just do it. That’s right, I’m talking to you. If you’re the one who usually arranges the childcare, drop this hint. If you’re not the one who regularly arranges childcare, then you need to know this action alone is right up there with coffee in bed. Trust me, this is a big one. You would be surprised how many people skip this part. Note: Schedule a sitter as early as possible — they tend to book up fast on Valentine’s Day.
  3. Say “I love you” without speaking. Hug them for a few seconds longer. Kiss them sweetly on the cheek. Stare intensely at them for a few moments … not for so long that it weirds them out, but just long enough to make their heart want to explode. Note: No fist bumps allowed!
  4. Skip the flower shop. This is borderline cliché. Send them flowers when they aren’t expecting it. Besides, you can’t eat them, and they die anyway.
  5. Get away. No really, you need to have a spontaneous getaway. Yes, I’m serious and yes you can. You can absolutely isolate yourselves from the rest of the world without even leaving your house. All you have to do is turn off the phone! Trust me, it will be like you’re on your own planet.

This isn’t an exhaustive list by any means. Whatever you two decide to do this Valentine’s Day, just remember that your own brand of romance is part of the glue that helps hold you two together. If all else fails, you could always just hangout and (ahem) watch Netflix.
