East Tennessee State University (ETSU) is a PERFECT place for you as a military spouse wanting to complete a first-time degree or even if you’re returning to finish a degree you started in another life.

ETSU is located in Johnson City within the heart of the beautiful Northeast Tennessee region, a perfect place for families to call home.

ETSU accepts all forms of the G.I. Bill transfer benefit as well as MyCAA and offers over 100 degree programs at the baccalaureate, graduate and doctoral levels within the areas of arts and sciences, business and technology, education, medicine, nursing, public health, pharmacy and clinical and rehabilitative health sciences.

Basically, anything your heart desires!

There were over 14,200 students enrolled at ETSU in the fall 2016 semester, including approximately 500 student veterans and dependents.

The university has been designated as a “Military Friendly School” for a number of years and recently was designated as an “Adult Friendly Institution” by the Coalition of Adult Learning Focused Institutions.

Military spouses and dependents who are interested in going back to school but are juggling multiple assignments and family obligations are invited to explore online learning opportunities at ETSU.

Presently, there are more than 30 undergraduate and graduate degree programs that are offered exclusively online. These include undergraduate programs in human services, radiology and nursing (R.N.-B.S.N.) as well as masters of education and doctor of education programs and a new M.S. degree in digital marketing.

Claire Crawford, a current student and veteran spouse at ETSU says,

“I chose ETSU because of the outstanding pre-medical program and medical school, as well as the opportunities ETSU provides to non-traditional pre-medical students. As the wife of a veteran, I quickly discovered the amazing support system the ETSU Office of Veterans Affairs staff provides to veterans and their dependents.”

At ETSU, all military-affiliated students as well as dependents and spouses will find:

  • A supportive, tight-knit military affiliated student community on campus with an exclusive Veteran’s Lounge for students to relax, socialize and study;
  • A fully staffed Veterans Affairs Office available both on-campus and online to process and answer questions about benefits and opportunities; and
  • Flexible on-campus work study opportunities available only to student veterans, spouses, or children of veterans.
  • The Little Bucs child care program is also available to students at ETSU.
