It's time for a fresh start! New year, new you. But what really happens to those pesky resolutions...

The Regret

Why didn’t I take that three month euro trip I said I’d go on? Who cares if it meant I would have had to live in my car for a month, you only live once! Why haven’t I lost those five pounds, well ten pounds now, I sure do love those Christmas cookies. Why did I let this year slip through my fingers without living each and every moment?!? YOLO darnit YOLO!

The Idea

I know! Next year, I will do all the things! I will MAKE A RESOLUTION. NO. I will make SEVERAL RESOLUTIONS. I will lose the 20 pounds, I will take a trip every month, I will eat only kale for every meal, I will work 80 hours a week to get a promotion in 4 weeks. I will DO IT ALL!

Signing up for all the things

New gym membership? Heck yes!! Extra hours at work? You’re on it! 10 Travel Magazine subscriptions? Done! $300 dollars a week at whole foods? You’re investing in your health! You need all those greens!

The honeymoon phase

This is awesome! You’re getting so much stuff done! You worked out every day this week and put in 60 hours at the office! You’re kind of hungry from juicing three times a day and you feel like your skin is starting to look a bit like the Grinch’s from all the kale, but it’s all worth it right?! Rocking and Rolling!

The shine wears off

Sometimes you just really want a darn donut you know? And it makes it hard to work those extra hours when every time you get out of the office chair your glutes are on fire from all those freaking lunges. Also, the gym membership and personal training lessons are really adding up, you’re not sure how you’re going to pay for your rent, much less go on that big trip. Instead you just take trips in your head because you’re pretty much hallucinating from eating nothing all day anyway.

The slow death

Instead of working out or working late every night you’re starting to opt for the couch a lot more. You’re still making it to the gym when you can, but it’s just so hard y’know?

The break-up

You just Don’t. Care. Anymore. The lure of Netflix and chill is too strong, the pizza, it just tastes too good. Oh my gosh, the pizza! You say “It’s not me kale and Crossfit, it’s definitely you.” Also, you need to get a rein on those financial goals and really you’re saving money by sitting on the couch and skipping that expensive gym.

Plus you know you can always start all over next year

For now, you’re just going to keep doing you.
