15 Most Embarrassing Military Spouse Moments

Military life often seems like an entirely different world and learning the ins and outs means we have all had an embarrassing moment (or two, or two hundred!)

We asked you all to share your most embarrassing moments with us and the stories made us laugh so hard we cried… because we have all been there!!!

Laughter is the best way to get past the desire to hide our heads forever. It also helps us remember that we are all human…and not the only one!

Here are some of the very best!

15) (Jody W) I can’t remember if it was Thanksgiving or Cookies for the Dorm Resident, BUT, I do remember I had a zip down shirt on. As I was standing talking to many First Sgts, Commanders, and volunteers, my 6 year old son walked up to me and completely unzipped my shirt!

14) (W. W.) When I was first married, I parked in “General parking.” I thought I was like general seating at a concert. RUDE AWAKENING!

13) (Sedona G.) Picking my husband up from our first deployment, I got out of the truck, tripped over a parking block and did a FULL FACE PLANT across the grass. My in-laws were there to witness it and 6 years (and 5 deployments) later, they still tell the story at parties.

12) (Susan B) The most embarrassing moment for me was pinning my husband’s rank on upside down during his promotion ceremony in front of his entire company! I never lived it down. It was the running joke the entire time we were stationed there.

11) (Michelle G) I was visiting my husband in Ft. Knox with our 2 year old daughter. She and I were standing at the elevator waiting to go down. When the door opened, a man in uniform stepped out. My daughter yelled “dad-deeee.” The man looked at me and said, “Ummm, I don’t think so…right?”
I was so embarrassed I just picked her up and got in the elevator. She cried for her daddy.

10) (Amy S.) After field exercises, I could never find my husband in the crowd. A good friend told me that I just had to recognize my husband’s walk (swag) and then I would be able to find him quickly in the crowd. It seemed like a good idea. However, one day I was picking up my husband and I saw him (well I thought it was him). He was walking in my direction and I was pretty excited to see him, so I whistled at him and then made a comment…”looking good.” The poor soldier sort of stopped and looked at me funny. I realized I made a mistake and in the moment I just stammered, “Uh, you’re not him.” The story gets worse. At the next hail and farewell, my husband was getting his farewell and another soldier who was hailed introduced himself as the one I whistled at! Ugh!

9) (R.B.) Here is what happened when I was a new spouse! At a squadron commander training course (where spouses were invited to attend), the spouses and active-duty members both had the same break. I scouted for my husband in the sea of blue shirts. He had just cut his hair that day and had a slight tan line where his hair used to be. I walked up behind him and put my hands around his waist…even rubbed him a little. When his head turned around and he looked at me…I said “Oh my gosh, you are not my husband!” and he said “Well, he must be one good looking guy!!” It was the four-star general that was giving the course!! The hands around the waist and dropping lasted for at least 30 seconds…well it at least it seemed that long when I found out it was four-star general! Then he had dinner at our table and sat next to us!
