Aside from the Red Cross and the various Reliefs Societies, there are a number of Charities that work directly with military members and their families. Some Charities are more general in scope, others work with particular branches and yet others serve a specific purpose.
Armed Services YMCA of the USA: Focuses particularly on junior Enlisted troops and their families by providing low and no-cost programs and services such as childcare, hospital assistance, counseling, emergency food and clothing and educational programs.
Blue Star Moms: Foundation comprised of veterans and mothers of those whose children have served. Blue Star Moms send care packages, veteran’s outreach, sends postcards, supports wounded soldiers and gold star parents-those whose children have fallen in battle.
Comfort for America’s Uniformed Services Elite (CAUSE): Organizes programs that promote recreation, relaxation and resiliency for members of the US Armed Forces.
Cup of Joe, Green Beans Coffee: Provides free coffee to deployed service members.
First Command Educational Foundation: Dedicated to improving financial literacy through education and scholarship opportunities.
Folds of Honor: Believes the no soldier is left behind; provides scholarships and other assistance to the spouses and children of soldiers killed or disabled in service to the United States.
The Freedom Alliance: Educational and Charitable organization that sponsors numerous programs aimed at supporting and honoring service members and their families.
Freedom Is Not Free: Provides donations to individuals and military families and supports programs that benefit wounded service members.
Help Hospitalized Veterans: Provides armed service and military veteran patients receiving care at US federal, state, and commercial medical or nursing home care facilities with therapeutic arts & crafts kits.
Homes For Our Troops: Assists wounded service members by raising money, building materials, professional labor and constructing homes.
Military Chaplains Association of the USA: Supports military chaplains through scholarships and awards.
Military Community Youth Ministries: Provides support to military youth with a religious focus.
Mission Continues: Awards community service fellowships to post-9/11 veterans, empowering them to transform their own lives by serving others and directly impacting their communities.
National Defense University Foundation: Provides private sector support for the National Defense University in mission-oriented areas otherwise not funded by government appropriations.
National Veterans Services Fund, Inc: Focuses case-managed social services and limited medical assistance to Vietnam- and Persian Gulf War- veterans and their families, with a focus on families with disabled children.
Navy Safe Harbor Foundation: Supports US Navy and Coast Guard seriously wounded, raises awareness of the needs of WWII Soldiers.
Officer’s Christian Fellowship: Supports military members and their families grow together with a religious focus.
Operation First Response: Serves all branches of US Wounded Heroes and their families with personal and financial needs. Services are provided from the onset of injuries or illness, throughout their recovery period and along their journey from military life to the civilian world.
Operation Gratitude: Sends 100,000+ care packages filled with snacks, entertainment items and personal letters of appreciation addressed to individually named U.S. Service Members deployed in hostile regions, to their children left behind and to Veterans, First Responders, Wounded Warriors and their Care Givers.
Operation Homefront: Helps with food assistance, auto repair, moving assistance, vision care, financial assistance, travel, home repair, and organizes community events.
Operation Interdependence: Provides a means for community members to support troops serving on the frontlines, military families and veterans.
Our Forgotten Warriors: Helps struggling soldiers and veterans reintegrate into their communities, through the coordination of vital services and direct financial assistance.
The Hugs Project: Sends care packages to deployed troops.
Toys for Tots: U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
Veterans Families United: Links with service organizations, therapeutic avenues, pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment possibilities for the treatment of PTSD.
Veterans of Foreign Wars: Organization that tirelessly works to support veterans by providing counseling, support, and helps to fund bills that support service members.
The Walter Reed Society: Benefits the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and its educational, treatment and research activities
Wounded Warriors Fund: provides support to the families of those who have been wounded, injured or killed during combat operations through fundraising. Organizes the Marine Corps Marathon.
Wounded Warrior Project: Raises awareness by enlisting the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members. Helps injured service members aid and assist each other and provides direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.
