34 Year-round Military Discounts for Military Spouses

As a foreign national, something that I have always loved about the US is the collective effort to respect the country’s service members. From individual praise and acts of kindness, to the sheer volume of popular charities that support troops, it is truly heartwarming to see a society that really loves its military. Honoring the military is something that many companies are passionate about, and that often manifests itself in military discounts: A gesture of 10% that says “thank you” in a small, but not insignificant, way. Whether or not you personally feel comfortable doing so, it’s not impolite to gently ask if a retailer offers military discounts for service members and their dependents. They’re there for a reason! Having worked in retail for several years, it was always a pleasure to give a small discount to military families when I was able to. There are three simple, golden rules to bear in mind when enquiring about military discounts: Always ask, always be polite, and always carry your military ID! The second and third “rules,” of course, should be second nature to all of us. But it’s also important to bear in mind that politely asking should never be considered rude to the person taking your order, ringing up your items, or working on the door. Almost all employees will be happy to help, if it fits with their company policy! Furthermore, the only way to receive a discount is to enquire about it. That said, it’s definitely nice to be informed before you visit, so we compiled this list of several nationwide shops, restaurants, hotels and parks that proudly offer year-round discounts to service members, and often their families, too. Days Out National Parks -- Free annual pass to U.S. military members and dependents . San Diego Zoo -- Active duty military go free, and dependents get 10% off. Seaworld Parks -- Seaworld Parks’ “Waves of Honor” program gives free admission and discounts to military personnel and families at many locations, including Busch Gardens (Tampa and Williamsburg), Seaworld San Diego, and Adventure Island Tampa. Six Flags -- The park often runs Military Appreciation Days, giving complimentary admission for active duty members, plus up to three dependents. See Restaurants military discounts on the next page! Restaurants Burger King -- 10% off at some locations, sometimes including dependents and veterans. Johnny Rocket’s -- Uniformed military, fire, and police personnel receive a 50% military discount at Johnny Rockets. Abuelo’s -- Up to 20% discount, varying from location to location. Worth calling ahead of time! Applebees -- Corporate stores and franchisees have different policies as it relates to military discounts and veteran discounts. Call the local store and see if they are participating in a military discount program. You must have a valid military ID to be eligible for regular discounts. Outback Steakhouse -- 15% off for military members. Lone Star Steakhouse -- All veterans and active duty personnel get a 20% discount every Monday, and 10% off every other day! See Getaway military discounts on the next page! Hotels Marriott Hotels -- Offer special rates for military personnel. Motel 6 -- 10% off for active, reserve and dependents. Red Roof Inn -- Military and government travel warrants a 15% discount. See Tech military discounts on the next page! Tech Apple -- Discounts vary but typical ranges are between 5% and 15% with 8%-10%; visit the website for details. AT&T -- Will provide a 15% government discount with a valid military ID or VA ID card. Best Buy -- Discounts at final checkout in store and online between 10-20% Microsoft 365 -- All US military personnel save up to 30% off Microsoft 365. Verizon Wireless -- 15% discount on monthly plans, plus 25% off select products and services. See Retail military discounts on the next page! Retail Lowe’s -- “ Lowe's established the 10% Military Discount to support the men and women who are currently serving our country in the Armed Services and to honor Retired Veterans and VA Recipients. This 10% discount is also extended to the immediate family of those who are currently serving, Retired Veterans, or VA Recipients.” Kohl’s -- Offers an every day discount of 15 percent off in-store purchases when you show your military ID. Aeropostale -- 20% off in-store discount. Albertson’s -- 10% off total bill Bed Bath & Beyond -- 20% discount for military members and dependents for Veteran’s Day. Rack Room Shoes -- 10% off for military members (plus dependents), every Tuesday. Sally Beauty -- Get a free Beauty Club membership card ($5 value) with a valid US military ID. 15% discounts on future purchases. Nike -- Active, retired and reservist military personnel are eligible to receive a 10% Nike military discount on Nike.com and at US Nike retail stores . Yankee Candle -- Military personnel and their families with a 10 percent discount on purchases made at all 568 Yankee Candle retail and outlet stores, as well as online. See Miscellaneous military discounts on the next page! Miscellaneous 24 Hour Fitness -- 10% discount for active, reserve and spouses, and no sign-up fee! Amtrak -- Active duty, reserve, and veterans get a 10% discount. Not for dependents! Massage Envy -- Active duty military save $60 per year on membership. ProFlowers -- Coupons for military members vary, but are consistently available. Sitter City -- Military personnel and their dependents are offered a discount of up to 50% off Sitter City membership.
